Essex Junior Chess Association seeks to promote the game of chess for players aged under 18 throughout the county of Essex, including the London Boroughs of Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest and Newham.
EJCA run tournaments and coaching sessions, and enter teams in national competition in several age ranges.
The EJCA Grand Prix is a series of 5 tournaments taking place throughout the year at venues around the county. Players may enter some or all of these tournaments, counting their 3 best scores as they compete for the Essex Junior Champion title in their age group. Titles are awarded at under 9, under 11, under 14 and under 18.
Coaching sessions are arranged throughout the year. These are tailored to specific age or ability ranges, and are by invitation. The under 9, under 11 and under 11 Girls teams compete in the English Primary Schools Chess Association (EPSCA) Inter- County Championships. The under 14 team enters the Southern Counties Chess Union (SCCU) competition.
